Pre-media PDF specification

  • Files should be created using Adobe Acrobat Distiller
  • Files should be Adobe Acrobat 4.0 compatible
  • Files should be composite PDF (not pre-separated)
  • Files should contain one page only per PDF(Multi-page PDFs can be used if being uploaded to HeadStart).

Colour

Files should be in the CMYK colourspace (not RGB).

Fonts

All fonts should be embedded and subset below 100 per cent.
Do not use Multiple Master Fonts.

Images

  • Colour bitmap images must be CMYK, effective resolution 300dpi
  • Greyscale bitmap images effective resolution 300dpi
  • Monochrome bitmap images (linework) effective resolution 1200dpi

NB: Images that are scanned for accessing over web browsers are 72dpi and are not suitable for print.

Original documents, prior to creating PDF should not contain:

  • Copy-dot scans
  • JPEG compressed images
  • Multiple Master Fonts

Bleed

Three millimetres bleed should be included on all full-page bleed advertisements on all sides.

For full page advertisements crop marks should be included and offset by 10pt. Do not include crop marks on advertisements other than full pages.

Trapping

The creator should apply any trapping requirements regarding overprint and knockout. Specific trapping should be highlighted prior to supply.
